Support
Public art at Concordia is growing and we are seeking financial support for activities, projects, programs, residencies and restoration of the permanent collection. Philanthropic support will allow us to sustain commissioning, research, production, and programming initiatives that address gaps currently identified within the collection and advance institutional priorities including equity, accessibility, decolonization, sustainability, and community engagement.
Public art priorities
We are prioritizing commissions of temporary, site-specific public artworks that thoughtfully engage with Concordia’s physical environments, communities, and cultural contexts, as per the Public Art Strategy.
Rather than expanding the permanent collection through donations, the Public Art Program seeks to support commissions that are conceptually grounded, research-driven, and responsive to place.
This approach ensures that artworks presented on campus are not autonomous objects placed within space but works that actively dialogue with their surroundings and contribute meaningfully to the University’s pedagogical, social, and cultural mission.
Your support in funding future initiatives, commissions, and activities will bring new vitality and social relevance to the collection and help to better represent our communities.
Note regarding gifts of artwork
In line with the public art priorities, Concordia is not actively acquiring works for the permanent collection and will only accept gifts of artwork that support its Public Art Strategy.
Should you have an artwork to donate that aligns with the public art strategy and matches the institutional priorities above, complete this preliminary screening form. We will respond within two months.
If your preliminary application is deemed of interest, an in-depth curatorial and institutional review process will be conducted to ensure alignment with Concordia’s long-term strategy and stewardship responsibilities before it is presented to the Advisory Committee for acceptance.
We will require the following documentation:
- Letter outlining the context and intent of the donation
- Completed Donation Proposal Form
- Artist’s curriculum vitae
- Proof of ownership and intellectual property rights (or declaration of ownership)
- High-resolution digital photographs documenting all views of the artwork
- Independent appraisal of fair market value completed within the past 12 months
- Conservation and maintenance estimate prepared by a qualified conservator
- Official estimates for transportation, installation, and any required restoration
- Any additional documentation relevant to evaluation
- Estimates must be provided at the donor’s expense. Incomplete submissions will not be presented for evaluation.
