Artist candidates

Invited artist candidates for the Hall terrace Indigenous medallion commission.

Jobena Petonoquot, BFA

Petonoquot is of Algonquin ancestry, from Kitigan Zibi, Quebec. She holds a bachelor’s degree in art history with a minor in photography from Concordia University.  She is a member of the board of Daphne, a non-profit Indigenous artist-run centre. Her multidisciplinary artistic practice including beadwork and photography is described as exploring Indigenous identity, cultural resilience and connection to the land, while offering thoughtful reflections on Canada’s colonial history.

Jason Sikoak, BFA

Sikoak is of Inuk ancestry from Rigolet, Nunatsiavut (Labrador). Currently a Concordia MFA candidate, in Fibre and Material Practices, Sikoak also holds a BFA in Studio Arts and Art History (With Distinction) from Concordia University in Tiohtià:ke (Montreal). Their art and writing are published in numerous art magazines, and they were long listed for the Sobey Art Award, (2024) in the newly introduced Circumpolar Category. Their multidisciplinary works have been exhibited widely in Canada and internationally, with two coin designs minted by the Royal Canadian Mint.
