Orphans/Counter-Archives, June 15-18, 2022, Concordia University, Tiotià:ke, Montreal

The 13th iteration of the international and highly celebrated Orphan Film Symposium is coming to Concordia. Join us on June 15, 16, 17, 18 in the DeSeve Cinema for rediscovered films presented by artists, archivists and scholars. This iteration of the event is devoted to giving voice to historically marginalized voices, with strong programming of Indigenous, Black, LGBTQ2+, Women’s and Worker’s films.

The symposium features 4 days of screenings and presentations by 70 speakers from a dozen countries. Evenings are programmed with feature events, including new works by Helen Hill Award winning filmmaker and animator Kelly Gallagher and also celebrated filmmaker Bill Morrison. Newly rediscovered and restored films from Quebec, Canada, China, Colombia, Cuba, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Spain, Surinam, and the United States. Special sessions are devoted to Black, Indigenous, worker, and women’s films.

This event is sponsored by Archive/Counter Archives and the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada, New York University and Concordia University.
