Volt-Age Master's and PhD Cohort FAQ
Volt-Age provides funding to MSc and PhD students at Concordia whose research aligns with electrification and community energy systems.
Step 1: Identifying a supervisor
To obtain a stipend, students must first secure a supervisor participating in a Volt-Age project and be admitted to a thesis-based graduate program at Concordia. Please view open roles and available supervisors here:

If a professor agreed to supervise you, you need to apply officially to a MSc or PhD program at Concordia, for ex. PhD in Mechanical Engineering. You need to provide all the required documents as listed on the official web page of the program. Upon admittance, you will be assigned a Volt-Age scholarship. You become a member of the Volt-Age Cohort.
Application deadlines for specific roles are mentioned in the role descriptions. Application deadlines for official programs vary. Please check the dedicated web page of your intended program, for ex. MA in Design.
The first official Cohort started in Fall 2025.

Please check if your supervisor participates in a Volt-Age project. If yes, contact them and ask about your eligibility and open positions. If your supervisor does not participate in a Volt-Age project, or you do not have a supervisor in your current program: please view our current open roles and apply according to the instructions.

Postdoctoral fellows are hired directly by the participating professors. Please check our Impact Projects and Living Labs pages to find out about eligible professors.
Please check open positions and apply according to the instructions in the How to Apply section. When contacting a professor, please mention that you are a current Concordia student and provide your student ID.
Step 2: Applying to a MSc/PhD at Concordia
You can apply without a supervisor. However, to be admitted, you need a supervisor who will recommend you for admission.
Your statement of purpose should be aligned with the research domain and Volt-Age project of your supervising professor. Project details can be found on Impact Projects and Living Labs pages.

MSc scholarship is 22K CAD per year, for 2 years, no tax. For MSc tuition rates, please check the tuition calculator page.
PhD Fellowship is 35K CAD per year, for 4 years, no tax. All PhD students, both local and International, pay the Quebec resident tuition fee, which amounts to 5K CAD per year (as of February 2026). Please check the tuition calculator page.
