EDI support

Targeted consultations for Volt-Age researchers that support equitable, rigorous and innovative approaches to equity, diversity and inclusion in research.

Why engage in an EDI consultation

  • Enhance research rigour
Integrating EDI thoughtfully can strengthen study design, recruitment strategies, team dynamics and data interpretation. Consultations help identify opportunities to refine methods and address potential blind spots.
  • Increase relevance and reach
Sessions explore how your project can better respond to the communities, industries and partners it aims to serve. This may include refining communications, improving accessibility or expanding meaningful participation.
  • Strengthen knowledge mobilization
Effective EDI practices help ensure research findings reach stakeholders who might otherwise be overlooked, including remote communities, industry partners or groups underrepresented in your field. Small improvements in clarity, accessibility and representation can significantly extend impact.
  • Co-leadership with Indigenous partners
Facilitate the participation of Indigenous partners through strong, trusted relationships.
  • Receive context-specific guidance
Rather than generic recommendations, consultations offer practical examples tailored to your project, team composition, research stage and goals.

What the consultation offers

Across all formats, the goal is to help you apply EDI in ways that enhance the quality and impact of your research and support thoughtful, field-appropriate decisions.

One-on-one conversations to explore questions related to your project or to address foundational EDI considerations in research design, team practices and decision-making.

Facilitated discussions for project teams to reflect together, align on shared principles and identify practical adjustments that support equitable collaboration and participation.

For needs that fall outside a standard session format, you may request:

  • Document review, including recruitment materials, consent forms, websites, communications and codes of practice
  • Guidance on specific questions from your team, such as issues, dilemmas or upcoming decisions
  • Support with outreach or knowledge mobilization, including accessibility, audience clarity and representation in materials
  • Accessibility checks, focusing on language clarity, multimodal options and barriers to participation
  • Follow-up meetings to build on earlier discussions
