You are invited to visit the Webster Library entrance staircase to hear our latest audio installation, Clipping the Poetry Series: Selections from the Sir George Williams Poetry Series, 1965-1974.

The installation was prepared by Jason Camlot, Deanna Fong and Katherine McLeod, and runs from December 3, 2018 to January 7, 2019.

Clipping the Poetry Seriesis a critical sound curation project that explores new ways of presenting audio from collections of documentary literary sound recordings. The collection we have clipped is comprised of over 80 reel-to-reel tapes that document the Sir George Williams University Poetry Reading Series, which ran from 1965 to 1974 in Montreal at what is now Concordia University. The recordings in this collection capture performances by prominent North American poets, including the Beat poets, Black Mountain and members of the western Canadian poetry collective TISH. The SpokenWeb project digitized and transcribed these recordings in 2010, which are available online.
