Concordia University awards honorary doctorates to three distinguished individuals

Philanthropist, artist and social justice advocate to be honoured

Montreal, October 14, 2015 – Concordia University will present honorary doctorates to an award-winning artist, a committed philanthropist, and a leader in the social economy movement. They will receive their honorary doctorates during fall convocation ceremonies to take place Tuesday, October 27 in Place des Arts’ Théâtre Maisonneuve (175 Ste-Catherine St. W.). The honorands will join more than 1,750 students from four faculties as well as the School of Graduate Studies, who will be receiving their diplomas.

, former executive director of the Chantier de l'économie sociale, president of the Chantier de l'économie sociale Trust and co-chair of Territoires innovants en économie sociale et solidaire (TIESS), a centre for knowledge transfer on social innovation, for her sustained work in favour of social justice and economic democracy.

The honorands are:
France Chrétien Desmarais
, chair of the board of the Society for the Celebration of Montreal’s 375th Anniversary, founding chair of the Canadian Olympic Foundation and vice-chair and founding member of the international non-profit organization, One Drop, for her decades of service to community organizations in the education, health and sports sectors. 
Tuesday, October 27, 3:00 p.m. – John Molson School of Business

Barbara Steinman, multi-disciplinary artist, former co-director of Vidéo Véhicule, an artists' video production and performance centre, and of La Centrale Galerie Powerhouse, for her dedication to advancing the practice of visual art and supporting feminist art.
Tuesday, October 27, 7:30 p.m. – Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science & Faculty of Fine Arts (joint ceremony)
