GPLL238 - Engineering & Computer Science Graduate Research Essentials

This 90 minute workshop will focus on introducing you to Engineering Village, a sophisticated discovery platform for current and past engineering & computer science literature tracked in databases such as Compendex and INSPEC. Other important engineering resources will also be highlighted.

The workshop will cover how to use Engineering Village to find articles and conference papers in your field, track research in particular journals or by specific authors and monitor new research output going forward. We will also show you briefly how what you learn here can be applied to other resources.

Learning Objectives

During this workshop you will:
1. Understand why Engineering Village, and other specialized subscription databases, are an important tools for searching the engineering literature.
2. Learn to use the advanced search and limiting options in an effective way.
3. Know how to save results to Refworks and use this resource to monitor future research.
