GPLD151 - Management Accounting Essentials: Budgeting
This workshop is part of the GradProSkills JMSB Business School Essentials series. It is an introductory workshop intended for students with no prior accounting knowledge. Content is relevant to students from any discipline who are seeking a basic understanding of accounting for their career.
Have you had to prepare a budget for a project and experienced difficultly estimating costs accurately? Have you ever been faced with reading a budget and not understanding the accounting terms?
Budgets are important for forecasting and controlling the revenues and expenditures of an organisation or project. Being able to successfully prepare and understand a budget is a useful skill for aspiring researchers, employees and managers. This workshop provides an introduction to managerial accounting, with a focus on operating budgets.
Following this workshop, participants will be able to:
- recognize the key elements of a budget.
- read a budget to help inform decision making.
- employ methods to forecast revenues and expenditures, and prepare a budget.
This workshop is led by Tomek Kopczynski, CPA.
Tomek Kopczynski is a designated accountant with 30 years of broad-based experience as a finance officer with large international organizations, and as a management consultant completing mandates in financial and strategic planning. Since 2007, he is a full time member of the Accountancy Department at the John Molson School of Business.
