Autumn Godwin is nehithaw iskwew from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation on Treaty 6 territory, Northern Saskatchewan. She actively facilitates decolonization by sharing information and creating community spaces for urban Indigenous peoples. At Concordia, she researches Indigenous cultural resurgence, with a focus on reclaiming language, ceremony and educational band-based practices.

On December 5th, 2024, the SHIFT space hosted the first event of the Black Healing Centre’s (BHC) Black Visionary Futures: Weaving Systems of Care and Solidarity series, Building Black Visionary Futures: Practice and Theory. Sam, founder of BHC, opened the event with SHIFT’s Governance Coordinator, Stephanie, and welcomed the guest speaker and facilitator of the event, Yolo (they/them) representing BEAM - Black Emotional And Mental Health collective. BHC has been part of SHIFT’s ecosystem since 2021, their work is centered around building intergenerational programming that reimagines healing from a community-centered, artistic lens.
The Black Healing Centre’s Building Black Visionary Futures: Practice and Theory brought the wonderful, knowledgeable Yolo to SHIFT to lead attendees through some of BEAM’s programming, providing the space for us to both learn about and participate in some of the healing justice based practices that BEAM’s work is centered around.
