Development of a couples-based health behaviour change intervention for older adults living with diabetes: the DDD study

Participate in a couples study to learn how to build healthy habits with your partner. Through online sessions with a counsellor, our program focuses on helping partners make lifestyle changes together to better manage their diabetes.

Summary
We are looking for COUPLES in which at least one partner is currently being treated for type 2 diabetes.
This study aims to create a program for couples to support each other in building healthy habits, specifically for older adults with diabetes. It focuses on helping partners make lifestyle changes together to better manage their health.
What’s involved? You and your partner will be asked to complete:
- Two online assessments
- Two finger pricks: one prick before and one after the intervention program
- 6-weeks intervention program
- Participation in an individual discussion
- Both partners have to participate
Inclusion criteria
You can participate if either you or your partner are:
- At least one of the partners in the couple is being currently treated for type 2 diabetes.
AND you both are:
- Aged 50 years or older.
- Have been living together for at least two years.
- Must speak English or French.
- Must have access to an electronic device.
- Must be ready for physical activity and have medical clearance if needed.
- Both partners have to participate
Exclusion criteria
Individuals who meet any of the following criteria cannot participate in the study:
- If you have a neurocognitive disorder
- Severe medical or psychiatric disorder
- Enrollment in a weight loss program or regular consultations with a dietitian, personal trainer, or exercise physiologist
