Position Overview
Volt-Age’s Intellectual Property and Commercialization (IP&C) team is responsible for advancing research translation and innovation across Volt-Age’s multidisciplinary themes and platforms. Reporting to the Director of Technology, the Intellectual Property (IP) Coordinator will play a vital role in monitoring strategic research developments, implementing protection frameworks, and fostering meaningful engagement with Volt-Age researchers. The successful candidate will contribute to building a collaborative and inclusive environment that accelerates the pathway from research to real-world impact through knowledge mobilization and commercialization. By strengthening Volt-Age’s capacity in innovation, protection, and knowledge dissemination, the IP Coordinator will be instrumental in transforming research into impactful solutions that benefit society at large.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Volt-Age research community to encourage engagement on university IP policies, ownership rights, commercialization pathways, and knowledge security awareness
- Collect Volt-Age researcher feedback and communicate to IP&C team to support continuous improvement
- In collaboration with the IP&C team, develop, standardize, and maintain frameworks and checklists for evaluating commercial potential of inventions
- Coordinate and update research ideas database to track their progress
- Prepare reports that highlight IP&C performance metrics and key developments
- Develop guidelines and handbooks for Volt-Age inventors
- In collaboration with Office of Research at Concordia, keep up-to-date with institutional, provincial, and federal IP policies to drive impact and support improvement
- Create IP&C informational materials – brochures, infographics, dashboards – for publication and website integration
- Assist the IP specialist to develop training and awareness workshops and seminars
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Technology
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the primary responsibilities, with 2 to 4 years of experience
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven ability to build trust and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Strong ability to summarize and communicate complex information
- Discretion and sound judgement in handling sensitive and confidential information
- Demonstrated organizational and time-management skills, with attention to detail
- Proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other software tools
- Bilingual in English and French, with strong communication skills in both languages
Assets (preferred but not required):
- Ability to interpret legal texts and documents
- Experience in supporting innovation ecosystems or IP valorization programs
- Experience with automation and data visualization tools
