Concordia’s Centre for Applied Synthetic Biology is Canada’s first and only research centre dedicated to the development of foundational technologies in synthetic biology and their application to solve emerging needs in environmental protection, sustainable manufacturing, agriculture, food production and drug development.

In parallel, the Centre also serves as a catalyst to promote ethical and responsible innovation through communication, transparency and public engagement.

Emerging in 2012 from a collaboration between the Biology and Electrical and Computer Engineering Departments, the Centre received University-wide status in 2016 growing its membership to include Biochemistry, Journalism, Communication Studies, Mechanical, Industrial and Chemical Engineering.
