Job Description

We are seeking a versatile engineer to build and maintain web applications with a React/JavaScript frontend and Python backend (Flask/FastAPI/Django), develop internal APIs linking research tools and data pipelines, and own applications end-to-end from architecture to deployment and maintenance. The role includes translating research code and models into robust production software, collaborating with researchers to implement new techniques, and prototyping with a clear path to production. You will provision and manage Linux servers for web apps and ML workloads, oversee containerization and orchestration (Docker/Podman), monitor system health and security, and set up CI/CD pipelines for both research and production environments. Strong candidates will have a CS/Engineering background (or equivalent), experience with JavaScript/React and Python full-stack development, Linux server administration, and familiarity with self-hosted deployment and reading Python-based ML/data science code, plus excellent cross-disciplinary communication skills.

Responsibilities: 

Full Stack Development

• Build web applications with a React/JavaScript frontend and Python backend (Flask/FastAPI/Django)
• Develop and maintain internal APIs connecting research tools, data pipelines, and user-facing interfaces
• Own applications end-to-end: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance

Research Integration

• Translate experimental research code and models into robust, production-quality software
• Collaborate with researchers to understand and implement new techniques (novel ML models, data processing methods)
• Prototype quickly while maintaining a clear path to production

Infrastructure & Systems Administration

• Provision and maintain Linux servers for web apps, ML workloads, and long-running compute jobs
• Manage containerization (Docker/Podman), orchestration, and job scheduling for GPU-bound tasks
• Monitor system health, backups, security patching, and access control
• Set up and maintain CI/CD pipelines for research and production systems
• Other duties as required by the Principal Investigator

Qualifications / Skills Required

• Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• Proven experience with JavaScript/React frontend and Python backend full-stack development (Flask, FastAPI, or Django)
• Linux server administration including system, networking, storage, and permissions
• Hands-on experience with containerization and self-hosted deployment (Docker, Podman; nginx is a plus)
• Experience provisioning, deploying, and maintaining web apps and ML workloads on Linux servers
• Familiarity with orchestration and job scheduling for GPU-bound tasksAbility to read, adapt, and productionize Python-based ML or data science research code
• Strong debugging, testing, and documentation skills
• Experience designing and consuming internal APIs and integrating research tools and data pipelines
• Prior ownership of applications end-to-end: architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance
• Knowledge of CI/CD concepts and setting up pipelines for both research and production environments
• Excellent cross-disciplinary communication and collaboration skills with researchers and engineers
• Fluency in English to express ideas effectively and to communicate clearly in complex situations; Intermediate level in spoken and written French
