By: Brigitte Jaumard, November 2017

Mr. President and Vice-Chancellor, it is my honour to present to you Mr. Kon Leong, CEO and founder of California-based ZL Technologies, and one of the early pioneers in massive-scale data management technology.

Big data technology involves data analytics methods that extract value from voluminous and complex data sets, making new correlations to spot business trends, prevent diseases, and combat crime.

Mr. Leong recognized this trend earlier than most.

He founded ZL Technologies in 1999, four years before IBM began its push to build a "Smarter Planet" and a full eight years before Cisco announced its "Internet of Everything" campaign.

Over the past decades, Mr. Leong has grown ZL Technologies from a small entreprise offering first a secure mail carrier, and then secure file sharing to a global outfit overseeing comprehensive information governance and analytics solutions for sorting and mining unstructured data.

Under Mr. Leong's leadership, ZL Technologies was selected for the 2017 Stevie Award, which recognizes accomplishments and contributions of companies and business people worldwide.

Mr. Leong was born China and he was raised in India, before immigrating to Canada, and then to the United States.

Mr. Leong is a Concordia alumnus, having received his undergraduate degree in business and computer science in 1979.
