Honorary degree citation - Harold Roy Crabtree*

By: Gunther Brink, May 1967

Mr. Chancellor:

I have the honour to present to you Harold Roy Crabtree, Bachelor of Science of McGill University, Honorary LL.D., Mount Allison University.

He is Montreal born and has devoted his working life to the industrial and commercial development of this city, province and country. He is Chairman and President of an important firm and holds directorships in many of Canada's largest companies.

His proven accomplishments in the international world of commerce alone, would be a record for which he could be acclaimed. It is not for this, however, that we honour him. We honour this man for the mantle of social responsibility which he has so willingly carried. His is a record of service. His leadership and administrative talents have been given freely to several educational, social and humanitarian causes. The hospitals have been a major interest and he is a past president of Weredale House. His service to education includes Bishop's University, Lower Canada College and Mount Allison University.

Closer to us, Mr. Crabtree has been a member of the Corporation of Sir George Williams University, which he has also served as President and is at present Honorary President. He is also serving as a member of the Advisory Board of Governors, having been a member of the Board of Governors of the University.

Mr. Chancellor, for these reasons and many others, on behalf of the University Council and by authority of the Board of Governors, I present to you Harold Roy Crabtree, that you may confer on him the degree of Doctor of Laws, honoris causa.
