Kaia Scott completed her bachelor's degree in Humanities, with a focus on 20th century European philosophy and literature, at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver.  Her SSHRC funded Masters Degree was done in Simon Fraser's School of Communication, where she wrote a thesis on the architectural themes in Walter Benjamin and Siegfried Kracauer's film theory, showing how these contributed to their visualization of film's potential to act as a radically new form of public sphere.  She is currently working on her PhD in Concordia's Film and Moving Image Studies program.  Her research interests include the cultural public sphere; cinema and modernity; political film criticism; history of documentary; science documentaries; the essay film; "mental hygiene" films; institutional use of cinema; and Weimar cinema and film culture. She is the recipient of a Joseph-Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarship.
