The SHIFT Kinship & Counsel Speaker Series
Join us for an inspiring dialogue in the spirit of kinship and wise counsel. Come and learn from two inspiring seed savers, farmers and community leaders who are learning from the land and their communities.
- Kanyʌhtake·lu̲ Rebecca Webster, an Oneida tribal citizen, will speak on how she weaves traditional governance systems into a vision of Indigenous sovereignty centered on reciprocity and responsibility.
- Rae Skye Katsi’tsaronkwas Brooke Rice, a steward of the Tka:nios project funded by SHIFT, will share her journey of intergenerational knowledge in food foraging, growing, harvesting, and hunting.
The SHIFT Kinship & Counsel Speaker Series is a new platform allowing inspiring mentors to share their wisdom with kindred spirit members of the SHIFT Learning Community. These events are opportunities to support our project teams while deepening collective learning and broadening our perspectives on social transformation.

SHIFT Inter-hub Hangs
On October 26, we hosted our first Inter-hub Hang!
Members of our steering committee and program hubs were invited for an occasion to connect and deepen their understanding of each other’s roles.
SHIFT’s governance model is rooted in community leadership. By engaging diverse members from our ecosystem, we ensure that SHIFT’s orientations are informed by multiple voices and are aligned with the values and realities of our community.

Harambec marks 40th anniversary of the first Black women’s studies course in Canada and celebrates its creator
On October 17, Harambec launched “Flame Keeping! Unearthing, Preserving, and Ensuring the Legacy of Montreal’s Black Women’s Groups”. The series of events included a panel on the legacy of Black women's groups in Montreal and a roundtable on systemic racism in the education system.
The series concluded with a well-deserved tribute to Dr. Esmeralda Thornill, the instigator of the first accredited university course in Black Women's Studies in Canada.
