Director Peter Stoett spent much of the week of October 14-18 attending the annual meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity's Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technological and Technical Advice, which was held at the headquarters of the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal.

He attended important side events on a global information partnership for the prevention of the spread of invasive species, and another on legal mechanisms to implement the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020. Over 130 countries had delegates in attendance; the meeting helped form the final agenda for the definitive Conference of the Parties to be held in South Korea in 2014.

In addition, Centre associate fellow, Piero Genovesi, played an instrumental role as Chair of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature's Invasive Species Specialist Group. The Centre is planning an "Urban Biodiversity Day" on campus, featuring a variety of speakers including the Executive Secretary of the CBD, in mid-March 2014
