Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility

The Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry maintains and operates 3 solution NMR spectrometers.

We offer NMR services to both University and external users including most of the routine experiments:

1D NMR: 1H/13C/31P/19F/15N, solvent suppression, 13C-spectra editing: DEPT/APT

2D homonuclear NMR: COSY/TOCSY/ NOESY/ROESY

2D heteronuclear NMR: HSQC/HMQC/HMBC.

Variable temperature control: -80 to +130 °C

Spectrometers

We provide confidential and fast service for all external users. We can routinely provide spectra of liquids on all our available spectrometers.

We can offer advice on the best methods of analyses or on the use of a specific technique. Please enquire the NMR Specialist for more details.

Students, postdoctoral fellows, and other researchers in the Concordia University are encouraged to learn how to operate the spectrometers. Faculty, post-docs and students who have undergone user training may operate the instruments without direct supervision. A service charge will be applied for each use of the NMR facility service, which includes use of the spectrometer or training.

Schedule

Long-term experiments (longer than 1 hour) on Varian 500 MHz should be run during the evening (after 6 p.m.), overnight or on the weekend. If you still need to run your long experiment during the day (2D NMR, kinetics, etc.) or would like to reserve overnight/weekend time, please write your time request in the booking sheet on the NMR door or make time reservation at NMR schedule (group is ConcordiaNMR).

Rates

Peak rate is effective between 9:00 am and 6:00 pm Monday-Friday.

Concordia (internal and non-chemistry) External (non-Concordia)
Peak rate (500 MHz) $5.00/hr negotiable
Peak rate (300 MHz) $3.00/hr negotiable
