The School of Graduate Studies is pleased to announce its inaugural Conflict Resolution, Graduate Supervision and Mentoring Day, a half-day of activities aimed at promoting excellence in graduate supervision. We will hear from Janet Morse, who can provide practical and useful tools and tips, as well as Lorrie Blair, Concordia’s recipient of the 2016-17 Award for Graduate Mentoring.

Janet Morse is an ombudsperson and the director of the Student Conflict Resolution Center (SCRC) at the University of Minnesota. Jan obtained her undergraduate degree in education at the University of Minnesota and her master’s degree at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs. She is the convener and chair of the Academic Civility Work Group, concerned with fostering academic excellence by promoting civil and respectful relationships, and improving the advising and mentoring of graduate and professional students. She is also a member, past board member and officer of the International Ombudsman Association (IOA), a frequent presenter at the IOA annual conference and contributor to the Journal of the International Ombudsman Association (JIOA).

Lorrie Blair, Professor of Art Education at Concordia University, has been selected as the recipient of the inaugural Award for Graduate Mentoring, in recognition of her commitment and dedication to her role as a graduate student supervisor. As the 2016-17 award-recipient, Dr. Blair has agreed to host an open forum to discuss graduate supervision and share her positive experiences.

This event is free and open to all faculty members. Please RSVP in advance by emailing sgs.rsvp@concordia.ca.
