A project by Nicolas Grenier

This summer, the Leonard & Bina Ellen Art Gallery presents The Time of the Work as part of the satellite exhibition program SIGHTINGS, which focuses this year on the notion of labour and the issues raised by an “immaterial” cultural economy.

Participants in this project have committed to spending a certain period of time inside the SIGHTINGS cube with an artwork they wish to acquire. Moreover, this time is spent without a cell phone, tablet, computer, book, or any communication, entertainment, or working device. The duration of their presence in the cube is equivalent to the time that the artist invested in the production of the work. The exhibition space becomes the site for a different economy that uses the “time of work” as a unit for exchange.

The artworks presentation schedule, as well as additional information on the project, can be found on the gallery website.

SIGHTINGS is located in the Hall Building on the Ground Floor, 1455, blvd. de Maisonneuve West and is accessible weekdays and weekends from 7 am to 11 pm all summer long.
