Roger Côté, Concordia’s Vice-President, Services, is pleased to announce the appointment of Sabrina Lavoie to the position of Executive Director, Budget Planning and Control.

Operating within the Office of the Vice-President, Services, and reporting jointly to the VPS and to the Chief Financial Officer, Lavoie will serve as special advisor on financial issues and play a leadership role in strategic planning for the Services sector.

In addition to acting as its financial lead and controller, her new portfolio of responsibilities includes oversight of the university’s business operations, which include the Campus Retail Stores and Hospitality Concordia.

“Budget Planning and Control plays a central role,” says Côté. “Sabrina and her team will help us plan, implement and maintain realistic operating budgets. The monitoring, analysis and reporting functions of the position are also key; they reflect the values this office considers central to fiscal responsibility: openness, transparency and accountability.”

Lavoie holds a BComm from Concordia and has been a Chartered Accountant since 2003. Beyond academic ties to the university, she also has a professional history here. For the past six and a half years, Lavoie has served as Financial Controller for the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, overseeing and administering operating and capital budgets, improving monitoring and control systems and offering advisory services to the Dean and operating departments.

Previously, she provided senior financial analysis, accountancy and audit services to firms including Couche-Tard and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

“This is an important leadership role within the department,” says Côté. “It requires significant experience in business development and a sound understanding of operations. With her proven project management and strategic planning skills, excellent interpersonal abilities and deep knowledge of the Concordia environment, Sabrina is a welcome addition to this office.”

Lavoie replaces Marc Gauthier, who left the Executive Directorship last December to take on the role of University Treasurer.
