Presented as part of the Theology in the City 2019 conference.
The 2019 Theology in the City conference will explore the themes of resilience, hope, suspicion and fear. Cities are places of unity and division where, for a variety of reasons, people both gather and disperse. Resilience and hope hold great potential to draw people together while suspicion and fear threaten to separate. Nevertheless, people are also frequently divided by their distinct and sometimes incongruous notions of resilience and hope and united around common suspicions and fears. As a result, most cities represent fragile and evolving spaces of consensus, community and cooperation when it comes to the fears and hopes of their citizens. Theology and the City targets this dilemma through direct and indirect (or interdisciplinary) engagement with theological studies.
