Concordia Researchers at the 2013 Acfas Congress


Montreal, May 1, 2013 -Several Concordia University researchers (professors, lecturers and graduate students) will once again take part in this high point of Francophone university life.  Nearly 6,000 researchers, including 500 international participants from some 40 countries, will take part in the 81st Congress to be held at the Université Laval from May 6 to 10.  They will present and share their research findings and address topics such as public diplomacy, feminist movements, Aboriginal governance, groundwater, innovative microsystems, nanoparticles and striking a research-activism balance, to mention but a few. 

Public and Cultural Diplomacy of the Future: New Strategies for New Challenges

The presentation will examine the direction that cultural and public diplomacy in Québec should take in light of what other countries are doing to promote their culture and thereby increase their appeal.

Aboriginal Governance and Northern Development
Daniel Salée (Concordia University), Carole Lévesque (Institut national de la recherche scientifique).

The presentation will focus on northern development from an insider’s point of view, that is, from the point of view of the Aboriginal populations that have been living there for thousands of years. The speakers will consider the experiences, knowledge, expertise and aspirations of the Aboriginal peoples living in the Quebec’s northern regions in connection with development issues.

The fear of falling in seniors: What are the most effective interventionsUp to 60 per cent of seniors living at home report a fear of falling. These individuals usually end up limiting their activities. This inactivity can lead to a series of serious consequences, including an increased risk of falling, increased fragility and the emergence of anxio-depressive symptoms.
