Fashion and design, or more commonly called 'fashion design', is an activity that consists in designing and producing models of clothing that respond to fashion trends and the requirements of the various markets that are related to it.

Joanna Berzowska, associate dean of research in the Faculty of Fine Arts, will present an overview of biometric fashion, using different kinds of technical textiles and silver yarns to embed sensors directly in garments. Most biometric clothing focuses on fitness monitoring and detailed analysis of workouts. However, some of the best ideas coming out of our schools and our research programs are moving beyond the gym: focusing on wellness, comfort, emotional health, social connectivity, and aesthetics.

Joining her in conversation will be Marie-Eve Faust, marketing professor at UQAM, and Madeleine Goubau, Radio-Canada reporter.

Mat'Inno is an annual five-conference series, organized by the Quartier de l'innovation (QI) in association with the Jeune Chambre de commerce de Montreal (JCCM), on a variety of topics of particular significance to the Montreal community.

Prices are $5 for members of the JCCM and $10 for non members. Register now on the JCCM website.
