Transcultural is an exciting series of roundtable discussions hosted by the International Students Office that encourages an exchange of opinions and ideas regarding language, culture, diversity, community, migration, and multiculturalism.

We invite you to attend our first ever Transcultural to mingle and meet new faces, grab a coffee and learn about English dialects. Dr. Bert Vaux - a University of Cambridge-based linguist and published author who he is frequently consulted by the distinguished press is opening with the talk titled Crowdsourcing big data in English dialectology: What we can learn about North American and World English today.

In his talk Dr. Bert Vaux presents results from his work using crowdsourcing techniques (online surveys, analysis of twitter and web corpora) and dynamic mapping to investigate how North American and World Englishes have changed over the past few decades as American and British Englishes have battled it out on the global stage.
