Sean Snyder explores the anti-artistic domain of research-based art: he shuns the creation of “works” in any productivist sense, and opts instead for case studies that challenge the conditions of the image. According to Snyder, “we see less of the image itself, overpowered by the meaning imposed by the discursive context in which it appears.” Faced with the “engines of history” that are violence and propaganda as identified by Noam Chomsky, we can either accept the inherent manipulation of images and go on to stress the ideological validity of the cause that justifies it, or unmask the manipulation as a move towards deactivating it.

His first important solo exhibition in Canada presents a group of 11 works produced over the last 10 years. It includes the inauguration of a new installation on the hacking attack launched on Sony Pictures in 2014.
