Putting Life Stories onto (Online) Maps

In this workshop we propose to critically explore the potential of a series of online cartographic applications to map life stories. Through the very practical exercise of mapping one specific story from the Montreal Life Stories Project with different online cartographic applications, we will discuss the pros and cons of these tools to locate and express different aspects and moments of life stories. Throughout this process, participants will also be exposed to the multiple conceptual and methodological issues that are raised when attempting to put life stories to the (online) maps.

Sébastien Caquard is a cybercartographer and an Assistant Professor in Concordia's Department of Geography, Environment and Planning where he directs the GeoMedia Lab. He is currently working on a FRQSC funded project that is developing new methodological approache to the mapping of emotion in oral history video recordings. Stefanie Dimitrovas is a student in the Department of Geography, Environment and Planning where she is employed as a research assistant.
