There’s something for everyone, from compelling lectures to meaningful reunions, at Concordia’s Homecoming 2013.

Concordia is gearing up to welcome graduates home to their alma mater with a slate of Homecoming 2013 activities.

Former Newsweek reporter Maziar Bahari, is one of the headliners of the four-day program. His talk about his harrowing experience — being jailed and tortured in Iran — is open to the general public.

Reserve tickets today, since Bahari — 1993 graduate of Concordia’s Department of Communication Studies — is about to become a household name. His tale has inspired The Daily Show host Jon Stewart to direct and produce a feature film, Rosewater, that looks back on his 118-day detention without charge following 2009 Iranian protests.

Officially titled Resolute Forest Products Lecture: Then They Came for Me: A Family's Story of Love, Captivity and Survival, the event will feature a conversation led by CTV News Montreal’s Paul Karwatsky, BA 04, a graduate of the Department of Journalism.

For science affecionados, triple Concordia alumnus Michael Meaney — BA 75, MA 77, PhD 82 and McGill University professor — will give a talk entiled, Environmental Epigenetics: How Childhood Experience Regulates the Activity of Your Genes.

Loyola alumni and friends are invited for a celebratory service with Reverend Robert Brennan, S.J. The event will be followed by a visit to the Loyola Jesuit Hall and Conference Centre, christened in 2011, with tours by Loyola alumnus James Donaldson, BSc 52. Afterwards, the School of Canadian Irish Studies’ Gavin Foster will give an historical overview of Ireland’s revolutionary upheaval.

Also on the Saturday, graduates will find four alluring class reunions: Arts and Science, Fine Arts, Engineering and Computer Science and John Molson School of Business.

Reunions will culminate with the President’s Homecoming Dinner. Hosted by Concordia President Alan Shepard, the event will provide alumni and their guests a night of dining and entertainment. Graduates from pre-1963 and class years ending in three and eight — ’63, ’68, ’73, ’78 and so on — will be honoured for their anniversaries.

The closing event will be an Au Revoir Breakfast. The casual brunch will be an opportunity to meet Benoit-Antoine Bacon, BA 95, Concordia’s new provost and vice president Academic Affairs.

Immediately following the breakfast, tours will be offered  of the refurbished Loyola Campus by a member of Concordia’s Welcome Centre and Loyola alumnus Donal Ryan, BComm 67. Tours of the Sir George Williams Campus will be guided by a member of Concordia’s Welcome Centre and Donald Chambers, BComm 75. A special tour for Engineering and Computer Science graduates focuses on the faculty’s cutting-edge facilities.
