Insomnia refers to a condition where a person experiences difficulties with sleep.
"Acute insomnia" can last from one night to a few weeks. Insomnia becomes "chronic" when a person has insomnia at least three nights a week lasting a month or longer.
Insomnia may present as:
- Trouble falling asleep (takes over 30 minutes to fall asleep)
- Trouble staying asleep
- Early or frequent awakenings
- Non-restorative sleep (you don’t feel rested even after many hours asleep)
