Fancy a night at the opera? No need to go far — this month, multiple octaves of drama will play out in neighborhoods near you as Opera in the Park gears up for another year of operatic flare. Don’t miss the classic Il Barbiere di Siviglia, performed like never before.

2. Life’s a symphony!

Le Classique au Complexe | OSM Classical Spree | La Grande-Place du Complexe Desjardins | August 9, 10 and 11 at noon

For the eighth year in a row, the one-of-a-kind festival Classical Spree will offer an array of free symphonic concerts, chamber performances and recitals across Montreal. On this year’s docket — and surely not to be missed — the Montreal Symphony Orchestra will delight audiences with three days of open musical performances.

3. Dance battle bonanza

4. Open air animation

Cinéma NDG à la belle étoile | Les sommets du cinéma d’animation | Parc Jean-Brillant | August 16 at 8:30 p.m.

Every year the Annecy International Animation Film Festival travels the world with its “best of” selection, a series of standout short films created by animation students at Gobelins in France. Don’t miss the top nine animated features from this year’s festival — all to be screened in the park under an open sky.

5. Enjoy some riverside culture

Festiculture Rivière 3 | Réseau Accès culture | Place Paul-Déjean du Parc Armand-Bombardier | August 25 starting at 1 p.m.

For Haitian tales, Arabic calligraphy, Indian delicacies, beautiful murals and numerous Bollywood performances, head down to the river in Parc Armand-Bombardier at the end of the month. Festiculture Rivière 3 boasts a fantastic program of diverse cultural festivities.
