Meet Julia Sutera Sardo, Concordia’s fifth participant in the student-powered Instagram curation program: #CUseenby.

One Concordia student per month is selected to share their view of the university, its people, programs, activities and experiences to the followers of the Concordia University Instagram account.

Sutera Sardo is excited to be the Instagrammer for October. She says that it’s a great month to do so because there are a lot of events in visually pleasing and sometimes lesser-known spaces at the university.

Enrolled in a double major in Political Science and Community, Public Affairs and Policy Studies, Sutera Sardo is also vice-president of internal affairs and administration for the Arts and Science Federation of Associations (ASFA).

She would like her photos to illustrate the many facets of student leadership at Concordia, while demonstrating why getting involved at the university is a worthwhile endeavour.

Sutera Sardo also promises to showcase the different features of the Faculty of Arts and Science’s School of Community and Public Affairs (SCPA) and the Department of Political Science.

You can follow her journey via the #CUseenby hashtag.

We sat down with Sutera Sardo to hear why she’s interested in participating in the program, what she hopes to feature this month and to get a few tips on creating an engaging Instagram account.

Why did you want to be Concordia's Instagram curator?

Through visual arts, I wanted to expound upon the various facets of being a student leader at the university and ultimately illustrate to my peers why getting involved at Concordia is entirely worthwhile.

I also really enjoy photography, and thought this would be a great opportunity to bring out my artistic side all the while taking pride in our university!

What do you hope to do with the Concordia Instagram account and why?

I would like to create interesting content that will showcase my student experience at Concordia: from my daily coffee breaks to planning events on campus to attending numerous meetings.

I’d also like to feature the School of Community and Public Affairs and the Department of Political Science, as they have both highly contributed to shaping my character.

What are three or four of your favourite Instagram accounts and why?

1. @earth - I love the intricacy of the elements that are captured.

2. @matthewzaremba - he is essentially a creative genius who ties art and life together.

3. @katxra – she brings the little things to life in the utmost creative way.

4. @cammymorrell– she captures the serene feel of the West Coast, while being incredibly relatable.

What tips do you have for Concordia students who are looking to optimize their Instagram accounts and/or take great photos?

Take notice of the details in your environment; sometimes the things you see, experience or pass in front of every day are the most fascinating and make for lovely pictures! On that note, unedited photos bring forward a sense of authenticity that I especially enjoy — carpe diem.
