We’re just finishing up an incredible year, capped by convocation last week. Coming together to celebrate the graduation of 5,700 students was a great way to take pride in our university.

As a community, we’ve continued to make gains in several rankings and we’ve seen our reputation rise, both nationally and internationally. Our research funding is at its highest level in our history, and our researchers are winning accolades for their outstanding work.

We’ve seen significant growth in the amount of philanthropic funds donated to the university for the benefit of students and the whole community.

It’s also been a year of productive thinking and planning. We now have a working game plan that translates our strategic directions into real projects and initiatives.

We’re excited by the great pool of ideas generated during our planning process, and we’ve already taken some first steps. Over the summer, we’ll refine and integrate initiatives outlined in the game plan, and begin to identify targeted outcomes.

In the meantime, I encourage you to take a look at the presentations made at Senate by the Faculties, School of Graduate Studies and Libraries. They are inspiring and forward-thinking, reflecting the uniqueness of each sector.

Have a great summer!

Alan Shepard
President
