And the winners are...

Concordia University Alumni Association honours its finest

The submissions are in and the jury has made its choices.

The Concordia University Alumni Association (CUAA) has selected the winners of its 22nd annual Alumni Recognition Awards. The awards were launched in 1990 by the CUAA to honour outstanding Concordia alumni, faculty, staff, students and members of the community.

Here are this year’s Alumni Recognition Awards recipients:

Alumnus of the Year
Walter S. Tomenson, BA (Economics) 68, graduated from Loyola College. He has enjoyed a distinguished business career and is now a senior advisor for Integro Insurance Brokers in New York City.

Humberto Santos Award of Merit
Brian Edwards, BComm 71 (Loyola), is chairman of the board of AtmanCo Inc. He was vice-chair of Concordia’s Board of Governors from 2005 to 2012 and is a board member of the Concordia University Foundation and KnowledgeOne.

Benoit Pelland Distinguished Service Award
The late Robert Barnes, BA 68 (Sir George Williams), sadly passed away in 2012. The Sir George Williams University alumnus had been a member of Concordia’s Board of Governors and past president of the Association of Alumni of Sir George Williams University.

Honorary Life Membership
Peter Hall is a member of the John Molson School of Business Advisory Board. He is president of Per Hall Associates.

Alumni Award for Excellence in Teaching
Martin Pugh is a professor and chair of Concordia’s Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.

Outstanding Faculty/Staff Award
Nancy Curran is an event coordinator for Concordia’s Conference Services. She’s been a dedicated volunteer for many community fundraising activities including the Concordia Shuffle and Centraide.

MBA Alumnus of the Year
Julien BriseBois, EMBA 07, is assistant general manager of the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning and is former vice-president of hockey operations for the Montreal Canadiens.

Outstanding Student Award
Eric Moses Gashirabake, is completing his BA in honours political science at Concordia, is vice-president, Academic and Loyola Affairs, for the Arts and Science Federation of Associations and is active in many humanitarian causes. He was named CBC’s Montrealer of the Week in February. 

The Alumni Recognition Awards Banquet will be held Tuesday, May 21 at the Westin Hotel. Consult the NOW news and events page in April for event registration information.
