Not even a building evacuation could deter shoppers looking for great deals. Despite a fire drill, the Concordia Used Book Fair raised $11,288.

The annual fair is popular and continues to garner attention for inexpensive used books.

But the cherry on the cake is that the record amount raised goes to support our students. Proceeds support a scholarship named for the book fair and the Multi-Faith Chaplaincy Student Emergency and Food Fund.

Chaplain and coordinator Rev. Ellie Hummel expressed her gratitude to organizer Susan Hawke and her team of volunteers, “The money raised is a testament to your commitment and dedication and your willingness to look beyond yourselves. You truly are an inspiration to me!”

Dean of Students Andrew Woodall offered his congratulations, “Props to all. Thank you so much.”

Most of all, Hawke (whose regular job is librarian in the Career Resource Centre) sends thanks to all her supporters, “There are many people to thank for helping us with this event, including Distribution Services, the Bookstore, the International Students' Office, the LIVE Centre, Conference Services, Security, Recreation and Athletics and last, but certainly not least, the Office of the Vice-President, Services.”

The Used Book Fair is a shining example of a community coming together for a greater good.
