A special joint committee of Governors and Senators is examining proposed amendments to the university’s bylaws that are aimed at strengthening governance at Concordia.

The Steering Committee of Senate and the Executive Committee of the Board of Governors agreed at a joint session, held on September 19, 2011, to form the special joint committee. The new committee, which met for the first time that same day, will provide its views to the Board and Senate for consideration at the Board’s meeting scheduled for September 28.

The proposed bylaw changes pertain to matters that are solely within the jurisdiction of the Board. Recommendations of the mid-June report of the External Governance Review Committee dealing with matters requiring Senate or joint Senate and Board approval will be discussed over the coming weeks.

The members of the special joint committee are: Graham Carr, June Chaikelson, Maria Peluso and Robert Sonin, designated by Senate, and Lex Gill, Peter Kruyt, John Lemieux and Annie Tobias, designated by the Board.
