CBC Radio pursues quest for science queries

<em>Quirks & Quarks</em> is coming to the D.B. Clarke Theatre on May 25 and host Bob McDonald and his team are on the hunt for contributors.

The team behind CBC Radio’s multiple-award-winning program Quirks & Quarks wants Montrealers’ compelling science questions. The team will match these questions with experts who can provide answers when the “Quirks & Quarks Question Roadshow” comes to Concordia on May 25.

Host Bob McDonald and his team are enlisting the help of experts from Montreal universities, including Concordia, to answer queries about physical and natural science.

Concordians are encouraged to send in clever conundrums for the expert panel to answer. Recognizing that scientific curiosity can begin at an early age, even the children of Concordians are invited to submit their queries.

So far, questions up for consideration include:

  • If a black hole is in the centre of a galaxy, could it eventually swallow up all the matter in that galaxy?
  • Why do Canada geese honk when they fly overhead?
  • What part of a scented flower gives off the scent — and why?
  • How do we know if everyone sees a particular colour the same?
  • Are identical twins really identical?
  • Where did all of Canada’s freshwater fish come from? How did they get into the lakes?


Those whose questions are chosen will be invited to attend the recording of the show so they can ask their queries as part of the live broadcast.

More news about how to attend the program recording and meet the cast and crew will be announced on NOW shortly.

When: Wednesday, May 25 at 7 p.m.
Where: D.B. Clarke Theatre, in the Henry F. Hall Building (1455 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.)

Questions for the experts’ panel can be submitted until May 9.
