Nomination period for Speaker of Senate

Annual call for nominations for position to facilitate discussion and debate on the Concordia Senate floor.

In accordance with the Enabling Legislation regarding the Speaker of Senate, Senate Steering Committee is submitting a nomination for Speaker of Senate: Dr. Donald Boisvert. The Enabling Legislation also provides for receipt of nominations from the community-at-large in accordance with the provisions set out below.

The Speaker is elected for a one-year term, which is renewable upon re-appointment by Senate. The role of the Speaker is to move the debate along, keep a speaker’s list, know the rules of Senate and university rules that affect Senate, maintain parliamentary order, and remain neutral and not enter into the substance of the debate.  This is not a paid position.

  1. All internal part-time and full-time members of the Concordia University community including students, faculty, staff and administrative personnel are eligible to make nominations.
  2. All internal part-time and full-time members of the Concordia University community who have served on Senate in a previous or current year as voting or non-voting members, or as permanent observers, including students, faculty, staff and administrators, are eligible to be nominated.
  3. Nominations must be signed by five members of the internal university community, one of whom must be a current voting member of Senate, and be signed by the nominee indicating her or his acceptance of the nomination and willingness to serve if elected.
  4. Nominations must be received by the Director, Board and Senate Administration, (GM 801-23, Guy Metro Building 1550 De Maisonneuve Blvd. W.), no later than 5 p.m. May 2, 2011.
  5. Nominations will be presented and voted on at the Senate meeting of May 20, 2011 in accordance with the voting procedures contained in the Enabling Legislation, as amended by Senate on November 28, 2003.
