Concordia Professor Geneviève Cadieux (Studio Arts) received a 2011 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts from David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, during a ceremony at Rideau Hall on Wednesday, March 23, 2011. Cadieux’s impressive career as a photograper earned her the honour.

For the first time, laureates of the Governor General’s Awards in Visual and Media Arts were given a bronze medallion, unveiled during this year’s ceremony.

This marks the second year in a row that a Studio Arts faculty member has received this prestigious honour, following the win by professor emeritus Gabor Szilasi (Photography) in 2010.

Cadieux’s award is a tribute to the substantive role of photography in contemporary art and to the national prominence of Concordia’s photography faculty.

Three other artists/teachers from Concordia have won the award since its inception in 2000: Irene Whittome (2002), Betty Goodwin (2003) and Françoise Sullivan (2005).
