New member appointed to the Pay Equity Committee

On October 27, 2010, the non-unionized employee group appointed Melanie Drew, Director of Health Services and Residence Life, as a new member of the Pay Equity Committee (PEC) covering the following employee groups:

  • Support Staff (CUSSU)
  • Professional Staff (CUPEU)
  • Non-unionized employees including ACUMAE (management & administrative staff) teaching assistants, research assistants, casual (timesheet) and contractual employees

Drew brings previous experience in pay equity from having participated in earlier pay equity projects at Concordia.

December 31 deadline extension requested

As per the Pay Equity Act, every organization in the province of Quebec was required to complete their pay equity program by December 31, 2010.

Completion of pay equity means that all job classes needed to be identified and evaluated as per the selected pay equity job evaluation plan and that pay equity adjustments were identified by that deadline.

With more than 20 working sessions in less than two months, including weekends, Concordia's Pay Equity Coommittee (PEC) members accomplished an incredible amount of work to meet that deadline.

Although very close to completion, the university submitted an extension request to the Pay Equity Commission in order to finalize the remaining steps.

While PEC members await a formal response from the Commission, work continues toward completion of the final steps.

PEC members will continue to provide updates regarding progress toward completion and implementation on the Pay Equity website.
