Concordia University has launched two new initiatives which will facilitate volunteer opportunities for its students and officially document their community engagement activities.

The LIVE Centre (Leadership, Initiative and Volunteer Engagement) will coordinate the promotion of volunteerism to students, faculty and staff; provide coaching, support and training to those interested in volunteering; and build links with community organizations interested in working with Concordia volunteers.

“Our students have a well deserved reputation for community engagement both at home and abroad,” says Concordia’s President Judith Woodsworth. “The LIVE Centre will now offer them a centralized resource for volunteer activity. It will match organizations serving the community with Concordians who are eager to get involved.”

Because of the importance the university places on volunteerism and leadership, students will now be able to have such activities officially recognized in a Co-Curricular Record (CCR). This initiative, a first among Quebec universities, will complement the Academic Transcript, providing students with a record documenting and validating all of their volunteer and leadership activities while at Concordia.

The CCR will become an important tool students can share with potential employers, and include with applications for graduate programs, grants and bursaries.
