Mary J. Harvan, MA student in theological studies, attended the first of what promises to be a series of workshops hosted by Concordia University and Université Laval.

Here, in her own words, is an account of her experience:

"An hour past sunrise on May 6, 2010, seven Concordia Theological Studies students and their professor, André Gagné left Montreal to journey to Ste-Foy, Quebec. The students had one objective in mind: to participate in a joint Université Laval-Concordia University workshop on Gnostic Texts from Nag Hammadi, Egypt.

Gagné and his students (Theological Studies masters students Costa Babalis, Jennifer Chalut, Mary Harvan, Calogero Miceli, Lindsey Sandul, Robert Smith, and Jonathan Raddatz) were greeted warmly by Université Laval doctoral student Julio Cesar Dias Chaves and were given a brief tour of the facilities of the Institut d'études anciennes.

The tour was followed by nine presentations and a tour of the Early Christian Studies section of the Université Laval's library. Topics covered during the sessions included: A brief history of the Coptic Library of Nag Hammadi, and recent publications and works in progress; Problèmes/limites d'une nouvelle edition des deux Livres de Iéou du Codex Bruce and Feminist, Gender and Narrative Criticism: the Character of Mary Magdalene in the Gospel of Mary.

All in all the day was packed with interesting talks, insights and exchanges that will most certainly lead to further inquiry. Both groups were charged with enthusiasm and tentative plans were made to repeat the hosting of this inspiring learning process on an alternating basis."
