Concordia University Hosts Homecoming 2011


Public lectures, reunions, Family Fair Day and more

MONTREAL/September 12, 2011 — Concordia University will welcome hundreds of alumni and Montrealers when it hosts Homecoming 2011 at its Sir George Williams and Loyola campuses from September 15 to 25, 2011.

This year’s line-up of events includes three public lectures by a distinguished list of speakers: NHL Hall of Famer Ken Dryden; former Canadian ambassador to Iran Kenneth Taylor; and, in a panel discussion on engagement in Haiti, Dr. Paul Farmer, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Haiti, Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire and Domtar’s Madeleine Féquière.

There will also be several reunions as well as the fifth anniversary of the popular Family Fair Day, which welcomes 1,500 Montrealers of all ages for games and entertainment on the Loyola Campus.

Concordia and its founding institutions, Sir George Williams University and Loyola College, have more than 160,000 graduates living around the world.

Thursday, September 15:
•    AbitibiBowater Lecture: A Canadie/an Life, with Ken Dryden, former Liberal MP and Canadien hockey great

Friday, September 16:
•    Shuffle 22, Concordia’s annual fundraising walkathon between the two campuses
•    Sports Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Banquet, inducting athletes, teams and builders

Saturday, September 17
•    Homecoming Football Game: Concordia Stingers vs. St. Francis Xavier X-Men
•    Engineering and Computer Science Alumni Reunion: Alumni at Play, with a demonstration of a flight simulator and Hybrid Control Systems Lab
•    Engineering and Computer Science Alumni Reunion: Campus Tour
•    Engineering and Computer Science Alumni Reunion: Cocktail
•    Celebratory Service, a multi-faith celebration led by Father Michael Murray, S.J.
•    The Human Library, for the first time at the Vanier Library on the Loyola Campus, where participants will be invited to “borrow” one of a dozen people (a “Human Book”) to have an enlightening conversation about their unique life experiences
•    President’s Reunion Dinner & Campus Tours, for Concordia University, Sir George Williams University and Loyola College graduates from reunion years

Sunday, September 18
•    Family Fair Day, celebrating its fifth anniversary, a day of entertainment and activities at the Loyola Campus for Montreal families

Monday, September 19
•    Talking to Books: the livres d’artistes of the Sylvia and Irving Camlot Collection, featuring treasured works of Québécois and Canadian literature through the eyes of contemporary Fine Arts students

Tuesday, September 20
•    Career Speed-Networking and Cocktail Reception – mentors with careers in engineering, computer science and business;  a career-related twist on speed dating

Wednesday, September 21
•    28th Annual General Meeting of the Concordia University Alumni Association
•    Henri Habib Distinguished Lecture Series: Iran – The Middle East Power, with Kenneth D. Taylor, Canadian ambassador to Iran during the 1979 hostage crisis

Thursday, September 22
•    Up Close and Personal: A Panel Discussion on Engagement in Haiti, with Dr. Paul Farmer, UN Deputy Special Envoy for Haiti, Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire and Madeleine Féquière, Director, Corporate Credit, Domtar
•    Career Speed-Networking & Cocktail Reception – careers in arts, humanities and sciences; a career-related twist on speed dating

Friday, September 23
