“The core issue here is around what is the right and acceptable way of doing business in the taxi market, the definition of a "taxi" driver and how to manage the "taxi" experience. This is important not only for platform services such as Uber and AirBnB, but for other upcoming market transformations (e.g. because of AI). ”

Pierre-Yann Dolbec, assistant professor in the Department of Marketing, analyzes what’s at stake in UBER’s battle to do business in the province of Quebec. The general manager of UBER in Quebec says his organization will cease its activities in the province on October 14 unless the government backs down on the news conditions it wants to impose on the ride-sharing operation.
