The Senate has voted in favour of Bill C-16, legislation designed to enshrine the rights of transgender people in human rights legislation. Proponents of the measure say it is necessary to ensure transgender people, especially children, don’t continue to be disproportionately targets of prejudice and violence. Kimberley Manning, principal of the Simone de Beauvoir Institute is also a founding board member of Gender Creative Kids Canada and the mother of a transgender child.
