Expert commentators

Concordia faculty and researchers are regularly asked to offer expert, informed opinions on many of today's most pressing problems. Read some of the latest news items about Concordians:

  • Le Devoir publishes a piece by Steven High, history professor and founding member of the Centre for Oral History and Digital Storytelling in the Faculty of Arts and Science. High looks at racism and racial segregation in Quebec's past and illustrates its existence during the 20th century through an examination of the history of black train porters who worked on sleeper cars. The article first appeared in English in yesterday's edition of the Montreal Gazette.
  • Moshe Lander, economics lecturer in the Faculty of Arts and Science, tells Radio Canada (text) that Calgary would have little to gain, economically, from hosting the Olympic Winter Games in 2026. Lander is quoted in related coverage on CTV News Vancouver (at the 1:07 and 1:18 marks, with quotes of Lander in the accompanying text story). Lander was also heard in local newscasts on the CBC radio network (no links available).
  • Radio Canada International interviews Kyle Matthews, executive director of the Montreal Institute for Genocide and Human Rights Studies (MIGS) at Concordia, about the return to their home countries of ISIS' foreign fighters and how Canada plans to deal with them.
  • Vice Sweden (in Swedish) talks to Jim Pfaus, psychology professor and Concordia University Research Fellow in the Faculty of Arts and Science, about what he sees as the psychological benefits of masturbation.
  • Gamasutra lists Pippin Barr, assistant professor of design and computation arts in the Faculty of Fine Arts, among the jury for the Nuovo Award to be announced at the 2018 Independent Games Festival, next March in San Fransisco.
  • Mike Gasher, professor emeritus of journalism in the Faculty of Arts and Science, is signatory to an open letter inLe Devoir, reprised by Le Huffington Post Québec and l'Eau vive, demanding federal government action to stem the use by such internet giants as Google and Facebook of content produced by newspapers.
