2023 Dean’s Awards recognize outstanding contributions by faculty and staff

Anne-Marie Croteau: ‘We’re here to recognize and celebrate the hard work of our colleagues’

On December 5, the John Molson School of Business held its annual Dean’s Awards. Over 120 faculty and staff gathered to honour winners in the areas of teaching, research, academic service and staff contribution.

“When I look at us, I know how lucky we are,” said Anne-Marie Croteau, dean of the John Molson School of Business, in her opening remarks.

“We’re a strong community and today we’re here to celebrate the hard work of our colleagues.”

These awards recognize faculty and staff members who go above and beyond in their efforts to support the school and the John Molson community.

The 2023 Dean’s Awards winners

Excellence in Teaching Award
David Newton, associate professor, Department of Finance

The selection committee noted that the quality of Newton’s teaching has continued to grow thanks to his ability to incorporate student feedback and to always make himself available to his students.

Distinguished Scholarship: Emerging Scholar Award
Sharlene He, associate professor, Department of Marketing

Sharlene He’s research examines consumer judgment and decision processes through an information processing lens. The selection committee highlighted her strong publishing and funding record.

Distinguished Scholarship: Mid-Career Scholar Award
Joel Bothello, associate professor, Department of Management

Joel Bothello’s research focuses on how organizations and individuals respond to institutional and market demands. The selection committee noted his impressive publishing record as well as how his research adapts to the current concerns of society and seeks to understand both causes and solutions.

Distinguished Scholarship: Established Scholar Award
Kathleen Boies, professor, Department of Management

Kathleen Boies’ research focuses on leadership in educational institutions, non-governmental organizations and the private industry. The selection committee noted how Boies is consistently active as an established scholar and has contributed greatly to the research environment in the School. Committee member Linda Dyer commented that Boies’ work in restructuring the graduate research programs and faculty research support was crucial. Dyer also noted that Boies was among the most active and involved people to ever fill the role of Associate Dean, Research.

Academic Service Award
Suchit Ahuja, assistant professor, Department of Supply Chain and Business Technology Management

The selection committee highlighted Ahuja’s work on curriculum improvement and program development and creation, saying he’s been an active member of the School since joining in 2018.

Outstanding Staff Contribution Award
Kelly Nolan, administrative assistant, Masters Research Programs

The committee highlighted Nolan’s commitment to ensuring both students and faculty members are supported. As the graduate program assistant to five MSc programs with five directors, the selection committee noted that each of these directors took the time to write a letter of support of her candidacy.
