Metric member and music alum shortlisted for Polaris

Alternative rock group Metric, which features Concordia alumna Emily Haines, BFA 97 as lead singer, has been shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize.

A not-for-profit organization that honours, celebrates and rewards creativity and diversity in Canadian recorded music, Polaris recognizes and markets albums of the highest artistic integrity, without regard to musical genre, professional affiliation, or sales history, and is adjudicated by selected music journalists, broadcasters and bloggers.

Past winners of the Polaris Music Prize include Arcade Fire, of which Concordia alumni RĂ©gine Chassagne, BA (Communication Studies) 98,  Richard Reed Parry, BFA (Electroacoustic Studies) 03 and violinist Sarah Neufeld, BFA (Electroacoustic Studies) 03, are members.

The 2013 winner will receive $30,000, while organizers will also present $2,000 to each of the nine remaining finalists. The 2013 laureate will be announced at a gala at Toronto's Carlu event hall on September 23.
