A pair of Fine Arts alumni earned accolades at the 2012 National Magazine Awards, the Canadian magazine industry's yearly celebration of the best work produced over the previous year.

James-Jason (JJ) Lee, BFA 94 in Studio Arts, tied for gold in the best short feature category for his story "On the First Time He Told a Girl She Was Beautiful", published in ELLE Canada.

The silver for Art Direction for a Single Magazine Article went to Anna Minzhulina, who earned a BFA in Design in 2005. Minzhulina is the art director of the Montreal-based arts-and-ideas quarterly Maisonneuve, which was judged Magazine of the Year - Print.

The awards gala was held in Toronto in June.
